Paypal now offering virtual credit card numbers

Posted on 12 February 2008 by admin

If you thought this is only for the USA, Then your right. Hopefully in canada paypal will give us a shot at this. Since we now can no longer get a mastercard debit card hooked to your paypal account. Currently in canada you will get this error “We’re sorry but the PayPal Plug-In is currently only available in the United States and is not offered in any other country at this time” I just hope they don’t shaft us like they did with the paypal debit card.

Throwaway online credit cards are becoming the norm. Those of you that were jealous of the Visa throwaway credit card that creates a new unique one time use number for your online transactions can stop worrying, anyone can now get on the fun! Paypal will offer this service FREE to all users once it leaves beta, meaning you’ll have alot less headache worrying about credit card theft and security. Now for those interested in what you can do with the virtual cards.  A ”virtual credit card number” through paypal would work on a site that you specify and then take from your paypal balance. Much like the paypal debit card did. The only thing is the new paypal cards are virtual you will be issued a new card for every purchase.

If your wondering how to get to that option here is the VCC URL. Like we said right now it does not work for Canada but in the future hopefully it will. Its more or less for say buying a domain with your paypal cash from a site that does not accept paypal. So you go into the little creditcard form get your new paypal virtual credit card and away you go. The Store gets its sale, processes the card just like any other normal visa / mastercard and you get your domain.
