Sales Improvement and Profit Maximization

Posted on 19 November 2008 by admin

For any Business owner improving the sales figures would ultimately result in better profit margin. Let me recall a familiar saying “A wise Salesperson can sell a comb even to a bald person”. But this type of sales skill is not available to every Sales-person except the few gifted ones. This does not mean that others can’t. You need to follow an effective sales strategy that could turn you into an Aggressive Salesperson.

As a Business owner you need to make sure your Sales Workforce is professionally trained and follows a proven Sales strategy. An effective Quality process in your Organization will help the Sales persons to identify their area of improvement and bring out the best from them. You need to make sure the Sales persons are motivated in a positive way to achieve their sales target which is set from time to time. Statistics reveal that offering incentives and reward programs to employees based on their Sales performance have a positive impact on the sales figures of the respective Business.

A Sales coach or mentor has to provide unique feedback to each of the employees based on their performance and motivate them to increase the sales numbers. An experienced Salesperson can easily find what a customer wants. By building a personal rapport with the customer, one can find out the customer’s needs. Say for instance if your Business runs a call center to attend customer’s queries, you can make use of the opportunity to resolve the respective queries as well as put forth your sales pitch. Although the customer may not have the intention to purchase your products, through effective probing you could identify the customer’s wants. At the time when you clearly identify the customer’s wants, it is the opportunity to pitch in the benefits of your products that can satisfy the customer’s wants. Once you have reached an agreement with the prospective customer it is best to complete the sales deal

Profit Maximization

Maximizing the profit margin of the Business is an important task for any Business Owner. Profit Maximization can be achieved thru modulating the output, production costs and product pricing. This technique may not be the same for all Businesses even if they are from the same sector. This needs to be done on a trial and error basis. Once you have found the most optimized combination (of pricing, production and output), you could execute it. But you need to remember that a particular profit maximization technique could work only for a particular period of time due to the fluctuating raw material costs, seasonal demand and supply trends etc. Hence it is advisable to review the profit maximization technique from time to time.

Lack of demand from the consumers to a particular product will drastically affect a Company’s profit margin. At times it may result in losses rather than profit. It is advisable to cut the production at this juncture, until the demand rises. A real world example for this would be the prices of “Steel”. Steel producing companies across the world have been ruthlessly beaten down due to the lack of demand as a result of global meltdown.
